The above graph shows the population transformations taking place between 1850 and 1940. Among the observations, there was a steady increase over the years, with the total population increasing from 1 million to nearly 3 million people in just 9 decades.
Note: Although the Census data included population statistics for Race (Other) during this time period, the numbers were too small and not further identified by race. These results are therefore too narrow and not included in this graph. From 1860 to 1940, Race (Other) slowly grew and peaked at 377 people in 1880.
